A New Solo Exhibition by Rero – A Provocative Reflection on Connection, Crisis, and Collective Resilience
In an era marked by environmental degradation, geopolitical conflict, and widespread disconnection, EMBRASEZ-VOUS the latest exhibition by internationally acclaimed French conceptual artist Rero offers a timely and powerful meditation on the paradoxes of human connection. Known for his incisive text-based installations and the striking use of the crossed-out Verdana typeface, Rero constructs a visual language that questions contemporary systems of value, belief, and truth.

Engraved baseball bat
Lenght 31.5 in. / 80cm
This new body of work unfolds through a play on French paronyms: embrasser (to embrace) and embraser (to set ablaze). The title, EMBRASEZ-VOUS, is both an invitation and a warning, echoing the phonetics of bois de braise (ember wood), a metaphor referencing both warmth and destruction — and evoking Rero’s recent artistic explorations in Brazil. Across his installations, visitors are challenged to explore the fragile duality between affection and anger, unity and conflict, intimacy and combustion.
A Global Artistic Voice Rooted in Philosophy and Social Inquiry
Rero, born in 1983 in France, rose to prominence with his now-iconic practice of striking through provocative statements, thereby inviting viewers to question the truth or falsehood behind the phrase. With a background in philosophy and a deep engagement with socio-political discourse, he has developed a critical yet poetic approach to contemporary art. His work has been exhibited globally, including prestigious venues such as Centre Pompidou, the Grand Palais, MAC/VAL, CentQuatre in Paris, the ArtScience Museum in Singapore, and Caixa Cultural in Brazil. He was also commissioned by the EDF Foundation in 2024 to title and contribute to their major exhibition Tomorrow Is Cancelled.

EMBRASEZ-VOUS brings together Rero’s newest works, created during residencies and research across several continents. The exhibition is a reflection of our shared fragility and resilience, addressing themes ranging from climate catastrophe and social unrest to psychological fragmentation in the digital age. Through materials such as charred wood, natural grass in resin, and found objects including a baseball bat, a VW Beetle hood, and a barber pole, Rero underscores the absurdity, beauty, and violence that define our collective moment.

49.2 x 41.5 in.
The installation A LIGHT IN THE DARK, produced in collaboration with the DARK PASSENGERS Social Club, anchors the exhibition as a contemplative epicenter. It suggests a new form of spiritual endurance — one that is rooted in hope, rather than fear. This immersive piece invites visitors to confront adversity not with despair, but with empathy and radical love.

Rero contends that in a world increasingly “set on fire” — politically, environmentally, emotionally — it is love and compassion that must become our weapons of resistance. In his words, “Only love can stop time.” His work urges us to ignite, not with fury, but with the resolve to embrace one another, to preserve what connects us, and to act — before it is too late.
