Book release & exhibition PICTURE THIS: Rotterdam Street Art Photography And the People Behind Its Lens

Hiphop In Je Smoel proudly presents, PICTURE THIS: Rotterdam Street Art Photography And the People Behind Its Lens! This unique book captures the essence of Rotterdam street art and captures the indispensable role of photographers in this movement. The book presentation will take place on 3 September and the associated book exhibition will be opened during street art festival ALL CAPS.

PICTURE THIS is a breathtaking hardcover with 256 pages, filled with beautiful photos of four prominent Rotterdam photographers: Ben Melger, Martine Kiers, Herman Roelofs and MJay. This book brings together Rotterdam murals and traditional graffiti, creating a more complete picture of these inspiring art forms and their position in the Rotterdam region. The four photographic chapters into which the book is divided are each introduced with an in-depth profile piece by cultural journalist and writer Jaap van der Doelen. PICTURE THIS is an English edition.

PICTURE THIS is a thick coffee table book that takes the reader on a journey through the streets of Rotterdam. It shows not only the beauty and raw expression of the artworks, but also the thoughts and perspectives of the photographers behind the lens. Through the extensive conversations that Van der Doelen has had with themselves and others involved, the reader gains a unique insight into both the motivations of the photographers and the often underexposed but crucial role they play within this art form. This creates a unique mix of idiosyncratic images and fascinating stories. View the book preview here.

The book release will take place during the start of street art festival ALL CAPS on September 3, between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM. This annual event celebrates street art culture in all its facets. The festival takes place in the vibrant district of Feijenoord, Rotterdam, and lasts until 10 September.
