Amsterdam, May 2019 - Urban Contemporary Art gallery Vroom and Varossieau present ‘Les Femmes’, a collaborative exhibition by ELLE (USA) and Judith Wiersema (NED). The exhibition runs from the 24th of May through the 7th of July 2019. We would also like to invite you for the official opening, the 23rd of May (5-8 pm), location: Willemsparkweg 134 (Amsterdam).

ELLE’s work is evocative, alluring, lavish, outrageous, purposeful and informative. Although she began as an illegal graffiti artist in New York, ELLE is now considered one of the top touring street artists. She creates stories by collaging disparate images: powerful females, flora and fauna, classical paintings juxtaposed with pop-culture and high fashion imagery, revealing a purposefully designed messages to the world. Her passion for the environment and feminism are shown in the transparency of messages throughout her pieces. ELLE’s current agenda is raising awareness of the hazards of global warming and ocean acidification affecting the world’s reefs.

Judith Wiersema is famous for her statues that focuses on the sensual representation of the female body. Her works reflect her own emotions and motives throughout life. For the shapes of her works, Wiersema uses stone, wood or clay as working materials. She uses these materials in order "to experience the same resistance I experience during life". The works get their own contemporary look with Wiersema’s use of bronze or aluminium. The stories behind all of the works creates unique pieces of art that are daring, thrilling and timeless.

For the Les Femmes exhibition, traditional art meets graffiti / street art with strong feminine power and feminine softness meets Rembrandt. Two strong female artist who paint and sculpt the female figure celebrate the strength beauty and power of the feminine through incorporation if contemporary art, art history, sculpture and graffiti.

Before the opening of the exhibition, ELLE and Judith Wiersema will join forces for Art Zuid 2019. On the 17th of May, the artist will finish 'The Big Leg': a 7 meter tall statue, placed at the Cornelis Schuytstraat. It will be a unique collaboration between the two artists made in the public area for The Stichting Art Zuid foundation, who wants to use outdoor art to create a new meeting place and make art accessible to everyone.
