Street Art collective Kamp Seedorf honors Amsterdam mayor
Kamp Seedorf, a truly Amsterdam street art collective with a big passion for football, created a one of a kind and spirited tribute to Amsterdam's mayor, Eberhard van der Laan.
Little more than a week ago the city of Amsterdam received some very sad news. In an open letter to the cities people our mayor Eberhard van der Laan (1955) shared with us that he has lung cancer and is terminally ill. Van der Laan also said he would like to stay the mayor of Amsterdam for a little longer and share some more time with the city and its inhabitants.
Kamp Seedorf put up it's touching tribute on the busy Wibautstraat in the east of the city. It's a portrait of the mayor wearing a Ajax Amsterdam scarf. Spray painted next to it is the text: Damsko <3 Strijder, which is Dutch street slang that translates freely to Amsterdam loves fighter(s).
A spokesperson from the collective told Amsterdam newspaper het Parool: "He was by far the coolest mayor this city ever had. He is the only one you'd like to drink a beer with at the Stopera (Amsterdam's city hall red.). He acts really stern, but he is also big fun, you know!"
