Born in Ohio (1980), raised in Miami, Daniel Arsham attended New York City’s Cooper Union. Where, in 2003, he received the Gelman Trust Fellowship Award.
With his art, Arsham covers the links between the art, architecture, and performance. Perhaps the most prevalent subject within his work is architecture, through which he is able to mix the real with the surreal: landscapes where nature takes over structures, eroded walls and aimless stairs. This way, going against the typical expectations of space and form. However there is more to this paradoxical approach with architecture: Arsham’s art also includes experimentation in structure, historical framework, and satirical acuteness.

The works we present of Daniel Arsham are from a series entitled Future Relic. A project that sees nine classic items as protagonists; items that are no longer in production, like Polaroid camera, walkman, cassette tape, and more, reproduced in plaster and glass as if ‘excavated’ from the future. Hence the name, future - relic.

Daniel Arsham is one of the founders of the influential Miami artist-run space ‘The House’. As a result, the artist started to work with collaborations fairly early: in 2004 he got approached by renowned choreographer Merce Cunningham to create the stage design for his ‘eyeSpace’. Arsham then toured with the dance company in Australia, France, and United States. One of Arsham’s latest collaborations was with the globally known musician and producer Pharrell Williams, and involved the recreation of Pharrell’s first keyboard in Volcanic Ash.

Arsham is now represented by Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin in Paris, Hong Kong, New York, and Seoul, Moran Bondaroff in Los Angeles, Baro Galeria in Sao Paulo, Pippy Houldsworth in London, and Galerie Ron Mandos in Amsterdam.
